In 1992, just after graduating from high school Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology with Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage in Alaska. Bossard got her start in the commercial seafood industry in the year 1999. In that year, she worked on Murat Aritan's halibut 65 feet vessel, transformed into a fish tender. Bossard and Aritan are now married and are working together to claim their place in their respective industries. Both are advocates of preserving sustainable and renewable seafood resources. Otolith, a wholesale direct seafood distributor was opened in the year 2007 by Bella Bossard (age three), Andre Bossard (1 year old) and Bossard's mother. Bossard had returned to Philadelphia after having two young children. The husband of the business has a lengthy career in the fishing industry that often means they stay separated from each other for five months or more. This is when they are focusing on their environment and financial goals. Bossard along with Isabella and Andre (ages 10 and 12 respectively) are back each year, beginning in July of 2016, to Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest from wild salmon. In a small 42 salmon trolling vessel using hooks and lines for catching their desired salmon, they work with Aritan during two consecutive months, selling to local processors. They also continue to expand their direct-market seafood items sold via Otolith Sustainable Seafood by way buying the customized processing services of small processors to create unique wild seafood products that show their passion for quality as well as the environment.
